1. I measured my wall -- it was about 90-91 inches tall.
2. I divided that by 7. (if you want thicker stripes divide it by 5)
3. Each of my stripes should be approximately 14 inches.
4. I'll be honest I goofed on the tape so my darker stripes are a bit thicker -- but they are STRAIGHT... so I'm happy with that.
5. My mom and I measured (starting from the top) and put tape one both ends of the wall at approximately 14 inch mark.
6. We then, used an amazingly useful tool called: a carpenter's chalk line reel
7. After we had our straight chalk line, we used the blue tape and slowly placed it on top of the line. (My mother's suggestion: Always wipe the blue chalk off before painting and then again once you pull your tape off later.)
8. We placed X's on the stripes we weren't going to paint as a helpful reminder.
9. Next, we put two coats of the light gray paint onto the correct "stripes".
(Helpful Tip: We made the paint ourselves by using left over dark gray and some white paint that came with the house. Always check what you have, especially if it is just a little amount needed for the project.)
10. I waited about 6 hours and then pulled the tape.
(I tried to wait until the next day, but was too excited.)
